The aftermath of a wildfire will require the rehabilitation of the environment and in commercial areas, such as MTO’s plantations there is the need to salvage viable timber, remove burnt material and re-plant.
When re-establishing compartments that have burnt it is important to consider create strategic buffer zones along plantation boundaries where a high fire risk exists. These buffers can take the form of planting fire tolerant species such as P.Ell. MTO also focusses on creating internal buffers to prevent a wildfire from spreading.
