The MTO Cape Logistics team has reached a major milestone with the arrival of its first Mercedes-Benz logging truck, dedicated to insourced transport operations. This marks the beginning of our strategic move to insource 35% of log transport to our own mills — an initiative designed to reduce costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and strengthen internal transport capabilities.

Why a Mercedes-Benz Logging Truck Strengthens Our Operations
Our initial focus will be transporting logs from the Longmore plantation to the Longmore sawmill, a key supply route that allows us to optimise costs and gain greater control over operations.
To support this initiative, MTO has invested in a Mercedes-Benz logging truck under a full maintenance contract, ensuring reliable and cost-effective operations. As part of our fleet standardisation strategy, this truck sets the foundation for a well-managed internal fleet capable of supporting the growing demands of our business.
Equipped with Fleetboard telematics technology, the truck provides real-time data on performance, driver behaviour, and route optimisation. This allows for proactive fleet management, reduced downtime, and safer, more fuel-efficient driving practices.

Investing in People and Long-Term Sustainability
This insourced transport project is more than just a logistics milestone — it’s an investment in our people and capabilities. By developing internal transport expertise, MTO is building resilience into its supply chain while also enhancing cost competitiveness.
Through this initiative, we aim to secure long-term sustainability for our operations, reduce reliance on external contractors, and continue delivering operational excellence across the value chain.

Looking Ahead
We are enthusiastic about the future of insourced transport and the value our Mercedes-Benz logging truck will bring to the business. With a focus on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, MTO is strengthening its transport operations to meet the needs of today and tomorrow.
